Frozen Yogurt Fruit Pops

I love making these for my family!  These Frozen Yogurt Fruit Pops make a great snack and the perfect dessert for the kiddos.  In my house we call these yougrt popsicles and my little guy loves them.  There are no rules for these, they don’t even require a recipe. 

My son, who is two and a half now, is a great eater. I’m always being asked what I do to get him to eat pretty much anything. I mean anything. You give that boy a salmon filet, he’ll finish it and ask for more.  Same thing with tilapia. He asks for carrots and apples for a snack, and eats so much yogurt that I think the people at the grocery store must think I’m crazy when they look in my cart and see so much. He ate coffee flavored yogurt the other day!  The entire yogurt cup!  I made broccoli slaw with a honey mustard dressing with dinner the other night, I think he ate half the bowl himself.  This handsome stud loves his spice too! He loves his soup too.  He’d eat it for every meal if I let him.

 

So when I’m asked about getting my toddler to eat my answer is always the same.  You need to set the example and make healthy choices for yourself and your kids will follow.  I don’t make special meals for my son nor will I for my daughter.  My son eats what we eat, my daughter is only three months old so she’s not eating food yet.  I try to make meals fun so my kids want to eat them.  I include my son when I’m in the kitchen.  He helped me make these Frozen Yogurt Fruit Pops.  He put the fruit in the food processor and pressed the button to purée the fruit.  He filled the ice cube trays with the diced and puréed fruit.  He filled a few of the cups with yogurt too.  He was so excited he couldn’t wait to eat them!  

Smoothies are a great way to get your kids to eat.  I make them all the time and I make them with milk as opposed to juice and I freeze all my fruit so I don’t need to use ice cubes.  No ice cubes means no watered down smoothie and milk means calcium and protein for the kids!  That’s a win in my book.  I always add some veggies too.

Anytime I make meatballs or burgers I add veggies to them.  Whether it’s just a grated zucchini or carrot or a handful of frozen kale, it adds great flavor and nutrition for my family.  The kids won’t notice and you’ll feel good about what they are eating.  I’ve even gone as far as finely grating carrots and adding them to mashed potatoes!  It looks like shredded cheese!

Gets your kids involved with you in the kitchen.  Have them do age appropriate tasks, get them excited about cooking.  It makes a huge difference!  Let them see you try new things, they’ll want to try them too!

These just require a few steps, a couple kitchen gadgets and two ingredients.  First things first, you need a mold.  Whether you use ice cube trays like I did, or popsicle molds or a silicon mold, it doesn’t matter.  The size of the mold doesn’t make a difference either.  

Start by getting your fruit ready.  You can do this however you want.  You can purée the fruit in a food processor and then swirl in into the yogurt then fill the molds.  You can pour the puréed fruit into the molds then pour the yogurt on top.  You can dice the fruit and either mix it in with the yogurt or layer it in the molds.  Whichever way you like best will work perfect.  Just make sure to dice the fruit up pretty small, especially if you are making these for young kids.  

Berries work really well for these Frozen Yogurt Fruit Pops.  Peaches work nicely too.  Just experiment and see what you like best.

Ingredients
  1. Fruit, diced or puréed
  2. Greek yogurt
  3. Ice cube tray, silicon mold or popsicle mold.
  4. Lollipop or popsicle sticks
Instructions
  1. Dice or purée the fruit in a food processor.
  2. Either swirl the prepared fruit into the yogurt and pour into the molds or layer the fruit and yogurt into your molds.
  3. Place lollipop stick into the center of each mold (unless your popsicle mold comes with its own popsicle sticks) and freeze until set. Freezing time will vary depending on the size of your mold.
  4. If your yogurt isn't very thick you may have a hard time getting the lollipop sticks to stay standing upright. If that's the case just place the molds into the freezer for half hour then rmove and insert the lollipop sticks and return to freezer until set.
Notes
  1. Lollipop sticks can be found at most large grocery stores in the specialty baking aisle.
  2. Berries work well as do peaches.
