This banana bread smoothie is going to blow your mind! It tastes like you just shoved a straw into a bowl of banana bread batter and took a big sip, without the raw eggs of course. I am so guilty of eating raw dough for pretty much anything I bake. I know I’m not supposed to…..but I’ve been doing it forever, no stopping now!
This smoothie is right up my alley! I love a good summer fruit smoothie with greek yogurt and all that delicious fruit, but there is something about this banana bread smoothie that just speaks to me! It’s thick and creamy from the banana, a little tart from the green apple, warm and cozy from the cinnamon and not to mention the hint of peanut butter in the back round. It’s got a little extra nutrition pack from the rolled oats I blend into it.
I love adding oats to my smoothies. I do it for myself and for my two year old. He loves smoothies! He asks for them all the time. I figure if I have the opportunity to add a little extra something healthy to his food I’m going to! I like adding them to my smoothie because I like the thickness it adds and we can all use a little extra something healthy in our lives. Try out these other smoothies I love that have oats: lemon blueberry smoothie and almond oatmeal strawberry smoothie. Those are two of my favorites!
I always have a bag of chopped up frozen banana pieces in my freezer. I put bananas in so many smoothies and they act as ice cubes. I rarely put ice in a smoothie because I always have the frozen bananas. They make smoothies so creamy and give you a big boost of potassium! Anytime I have bananas that are a little past their prime I peel them and cut them into about one inch chunks, lay them out on a paper plate toss them in the freezer and after they are frozen put them in a zipper top freezer bag and they are there when I need them. That’s my smoothie tip!
Frozen bananas make a good little sweet snack too. They almost taste like candy. My little guy loves them.
- 1 large frozen banana, cut into chunks
- 1 medium green apple, chopped in large chunks
- 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 2 tbsp. creamy peanut butter
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup almond or regular milk
- Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Depending on how large your banana and apple are and how thick you like your smoothies you may need a little more or a little less milk.
